  2009 Ruby Valley Pool FAQS

Why does the pool open so late in June?   The pool should be open for just over 80 days this year but the opening cannot occur until the lifeguard staff is certified. The lifeguard certification will be complete by June 8th this year.  May and June are also commonly the rainy months of the year so the decision was made to extend the season into September because the weather is historically hotter in August & September as compared to June. This year's Grand Opening was June 19th at 5 pm with a barbeque and swim night.  The 2009 swim season is planned thru Labor Day.

Who is running the pool this year?
The Town of Sheridan owns the Ruby Valley Swimming Pool but there is a new management/lease agreement that is effective for the 2009 summer season.  The Sheridan Alder Park & Recreation District or SAPRD will  lease and manage the swimming pool for the 2009 swim season with the help of the Town of Sheridan in maintenance.   The Pool Advisory Committee or PAC is a committee formed with a SAPD board member, Janet Marsh, and two Ruby Valley Swimming Club board members, Eileen Pearce and Karen Talley, for the 2009 swim season.  This committee created the pool operational plan, budget, recommended employees for hire, etc for the 2009 swim season.

Sheridan Alder Park & Recreation District or SAPRD Board Designee for supervising pool operations is
 Janet Marsh 842-5888.

The PAC can be reached at:

Pool Advisory Committee
PO Box 134

Sheridan, MT  59749 or at info@rubyvalleypool.com.

How long is the pool open for in 2009?   The Pool Advisory Committee hopes to keep the pool open for the 2009 swim season for 81 days.  This planned season is approximately 25 days longer than past seasons.  The PAC believes this 81 day season is achievable but is subject to change if there is any major equipment failure or unexpected costs associated with operating the pool where funds are not available.

What is new for the 2009 swim season?   Beside a longer swim season, the PAC and manager Colton Hellwinkle plan on organizing special feature events for this summer.  More information is to come on these special events.  The first event will be the Grand Opening Family night with a free barbeque sponsored by the Ruby Valley Swimming Club.  A mini Triathlon is planned for the Sheridan Festival for August 1st.  There is a longer morning aerobic and lap swim time this year, 6am thru 9am, along with a new water Fitness class during the 6 pm Lap Swim session. Looking forward, we do hope to have a swim team for the 2010 swim season.

Hours and season schedule are subject to change base on weather, pool operations and as determined by the Sheridan Alder Park & Recreation District or SAPRD at www.sheridanalderparks.org .  The Ruby Valley Swimming Pool is owned by the Town of Sheridan and leased by the SAPRD.  The 2009 Pool Manager is Colton Hellwinkle; the SAPRD contact is Janet Marsh.
